My review of Alafair Burke's The Wife. $26.99.
Angela Powell has it all. Loving, famous author husband Jason, son Spencer. Nice house. Her world starts to unravel when Jason is accused of sexual harassment by an intern then a client at Jason’s firm also claims she has evidence of a sexual assault. The woman then disappears. Then cracks in Angela’s perfect façade start to show. She has a dark past that she doesn’t want to get out to the media. Angela is searching for the truth. Is Jason really who he seems and is Angela?
I liked all of the twists and turns that Alafair throws at the reader. I thought I figured everything out but boy, was I wrong! I also liked that every character has flaws. No one is perfect. I couldn’t put this book down and read it in two days. Definitely a fast paced domestic thriller. I would definitely recommend it and her other book The Ex ($15.99) to women looking for the next domestic suspense Gone Girl type book.

My review of Stephen King's Revival
The story is about Jamie, a 6-year-old boy and a young clergyman Reverend Charles Jacobs and the impact that the Reverend has on Jamie's life when the Reverend cures Jamie's brother by experimenting with electrical current so that the older boy regain his voice after he was hit by a ski pole. Then tragedy happens when the Rev's family is killed and after the Reverend gives an angry and grief stricken sermon and he is fired and vanishes. Years go by, Jamie falls in teenage love, plays in dozens of rock bands and then gets hooked on heroin and their paths cross again when Reverend Jacobs now going by Dan Jacobs cures Jamie of his heroin addiction. Jamie has some strange and dark side effects after that. Years later, the Reverend is a tent show preacher who still is curing people and Jamie decides he must stop the Reverend when Jamie finds out that some of the Reverend's other miracle cures seem to be experiencing strange and dark side effects too.
The story starts out slow because King is trying to establish the relationship that the two have. It starts to pick up more steam during Jamie's teen and adult years. There is only a few glimpses of the early King's dark and twisted world up until the closer towards the end. It was a good story and I read it in two days! Definitely worth it!

My review of Carpe Demon by Julie Kenner
Kate Connor is your average, everyday mom with two kids, a husband, and one very big secret …Now retired, Kate’s more interested in the domestic than the demonic. So when she catches sight of a demon in Wal-Mart, she tells herself it’s some other Hunter’s problem. But when that demon attacks her in her kitchen, retirement is no longer an option. She’s a little out of practice, but hey … if she can juggle two kids and an impromptu dinner party, ridding the town of demons should be a piece of cake.
Like the saying goes, Carpe Demon … and Kate intends to do just that.
Now Kate has to kick a little demon butt, figure out why the creatures are trying to take her out and take over her home town, and at the same time take care of her two year old, deal with a hormonal 14 year old, and try to keep her past a secret from her daughter and her husband.
I love this series and I love Kate Connor. It's just like Charlaine Harris says, “Shows you what would happen if Buffy got married and kept her past a secret. It’s a hoot.”
I definitely would recommend these to anyone looking for an enjoyable thriller/action/romance/funny book! It's all of that and more!
Now you can read it for free! Here's the link! http://www.amazon.com/Carpe-Demon-Adventures-Demon-Hunting-Soccer-ebook/dp/B00AM5VBEC/ref=tmm_kin_title_popover

My review of Midnight Crossroad by Charlaine Harris AND Midnight Crossroad (BookTrailer)...
FIRST IN A NEW TRILOGY
From Charlaine Harris, the bestselling author who created Sookie Stackhouse and her world of Bon Temps, Louisiana, comes a darker locale—populated by more strangers than friends. But then, that’s how the locals prefer it…
Welcome to Midnight, Texas, a town with many boarded-up windows and few full-time inhabitants, located at the crossing of Witch Light Road and Davy Road. It’s a pretty standard dried-up western town.
There’s a pawnshop (someone lives in the basement and is seen only at night). There’s a diner (people who are just passing through tend not to linger). And there’s new resident Manfred Bernardo, who thinks he’s found the perfect place to work in private (and who has secrets of his own).
Stop at the one traffic light in town, and everything looks normal. Stay awhile, and learn the truth...
The story was interesting especially being able to peek into the characters thoughts. It makes me feel like a fly on the wall! Charlaine also brings back familiar characters from her other series. She also kept me wondering if certain characters were good or bad. I can’t wait to read more!

My review of the Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth...
Beatrice Prior lives in a future version of Chicago where there are five distinct factions. Each faction thinks one virtue is best: Dauntless are brave, Erudite love knowledge, Abnegation is pro-self-sacrifice, Amity is friendship, and Candor is straight talking. Beatrice grew up in an Abnegation family. When you turn 16 you have take a test to see what faction you show traits for and then you decide which faction you want to be in for the rest of your life. Beatrice or Tris decides that she doesn't show the virtue needed to stay in Abnegation and chooses Dauntless in order to become brave. She also can't reveal that her test results show that she is a Divergent which means she doesn't fit in with any one faction and Divergents don't end up alive if they are discovered. She uncovers a plot (with the help of her trainer/love interest Four) to start a war.
It was good, I finished all three books in about a week because I wanted to know what happened with Tris and Four. After reading the Hunger Games trilogy and now this, I'm getting burn out on the whole Dystopian concept. I still give it 4 stars out of 10 though and it is worth reading. I'm just on to something completely different!

My review of Dr. Sleep by Stephen King
Little Danny Torrence (Redrum!) grown up and trying to save kids with the Shining from evil people called "The True Knot" that suck the "steam" from the kids.
I am a Stephen King fan and I was one of the people that believed that Stephen should have left The Shining alone. After many customers from my job told me that I should read it and it's really really good. After much reluctance, I finally decided to read it. I don't know why I waited so long!!! What was I thinking??!! The book was really good and very suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my bed (cause that's where I do all of my reading!). I stayed up late just so I could finish the book because if I didn't, then I would have been disappointed in myself for not finishing the book and made myself wonder what would happen to Dan Torrence. Definitely worth reading. 8.5 stars out of 10.Tuesday, October 22, 2013
My review of The Bride Wore Size 12 by Meg Cabot
Heather Wells, former pop star now Assistant Residence Hall Director of "Death Dorm" is planning her wedding, dealing with her estranged mother, and finding Jasmin's (a RA in her dorm) killer all before her upcoming nuptials!
I liked it, even though this is supposed to be the 5th and final book in the series. I didn't read any of the ones before, but I really don't think I needed to. It was also nice to read about a character that isn't a size 2. I love Heather and her sense of humor. She’s wiling to poke fun at herself and point us (the readers) at some of the bizarre stuff that happens around her. Although she has all the craziness associated with getting married in a few weeks, she has to handle the murder of a student in her dorm. One of the best things about this book is that not once have I ever been able to guess the true identity of the killer or his/her motive behind the killings. So it’s always a great surprise when Heather makes this discovery. I think it's a cozy/romantic mystery and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a lighter fun read.

My Review of The Highway by C.J. Box
When two sisters set out across a remote stretch of Montana road to visit their friend, little do they know it will be the last time anyone might ever hear from them again. Former police investigator Cody Hoyt has just lost his job and has fallen off the wagon after a long stretch of sobriety. Convinced by his son and his former rookie partner, Cassie Dewell, he begins the drive south to the girls’ last known location, then disappears. Cassie needs to find Gracie, Danielle and Cody before time runs out for them.
I liked it. It was a fast paced thriller with a lot of twists and turns. There were times when I wanted to snap the cover closed and then there were times when I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed this book, but beware, it is a dark and creepy page turner. I was exhausted by the end of the book! I would definitely recommend this to everyone that is looking for a good page turner.

My review of Hysteria...
Just watched this movie Hysteria
In the Victorian Era, doctors diagnosed women with feminine hysteria when they exhibited symptoms such as nervousness, loss of appetite for food or sex, and a "tendency to cause trouble". These women would undergo a "pelvic massage" — manual stimulation of the genitals by the doctor (sometimes for hours and hours) until the patient experienced "hysterical paroxysm" (orgasm). Extreme cases resulted in women forced in to insane asylums and removal of the uterus.
Hysteria is about a young doctor, Mortimer Grandville who is hired as an assistant in a private practice by Dr. Robert Dalrymple. Dr. Dalrymple uses pelvic massage to treat the well to do woman and teaches Mortimer his methods. Mortimer & Dalrymple's methods prove to be a huge success until Mortimer suddenly has hand cramps and is then fired by Dalrymple. When Mortimer turns to his lifelong friend Edmund St. John-Smythe for advice while using Edmund's new invention (a electric powered feather duster) and discovers that the vibrations are felt throughout his body, he realizes that the duster may be the solution to a much quicker "hysterical paroxysm". Thus, the first vibrator is born!
It was a good romantic comedy and the interactions between Hugh Dancy (Grandville) and Maggie Gyllenhaal (Charlotte Dalrymple) are believable. I give it 8 stars out of 10.

My review of Magic Mike...
Channing Tatum plays Mike, a man who's searching for the "American Dream" while wearing a thong decides to mentor a young upstart (Alex Pettyfer).
The choreography was okay, I think they saved the best moves for Channing (and he IS a talented dancer). The story was predictable. 2 1/2 stars out of ten.

My review of The Next Best Thing by Jennifer Weiner...
23-year-old Ruth Saunders decides to move to California with her 70-year-old grandma hoping to make it big as a T.V. writer. Once her sitcom "The Next Best Thing" gets green lit, she has to deal with all of the Hollywood baggage that goes with it.
I have loved Jennifer's books since I read Good In Bed. I like her sense of humor and her smart, funny, sarcastic, REALISTIC characters. This book did not let me down. I loved Ruth for all of her flaws and hoped for her to have the happy ending that she so richly deserves. You can tell that she wrote this book "loosely" based on her experiences writing on the T.V. show "State of Georgia".

My review of The Girl in the Clockwork Collar (Book 2 in the Steampunk Chronicles)...
New York - 1897, Finley Jayne and her "straynge band of mysfits" rush to save cowboy Jasper and Mei (the girl with the clockwork collar) from the evil clutches of a "former friend".
Having read the prequel: The Strange Case of Finley Jayne and The Girl in the Steel Corset (Book 1 in the series) I was left wanting to know what happens to Finley Jayne and her "straynge band of mysfits". The genre is interesting, Victorian age meets steam punk. All in all, a great edge-of-the-seat thriller with a dash of romance amidst steam punk animatronics. I gave it 7 stars out of 10.

My review of Men In Black 3...
Agent J travels in time to MIB's early years in the 1960s, to stop an alien from assassinating his friend Agent K and changing history. I went to see MIB3 because I enjoyed the first movie. I laughed at most of the jokes, all in all I gave MIB(1) 8 stars out of 10. I heard that MIB3 beat box office numbers on opening weekend. People talked about how good it was BUT not me! I really thought that Josh Brolin was a good Agent K. He really nailed Tommy Lee Jones mannerisms. I laughed maybe once. To sum it up, I would give this movie 3 stars out of 10. Wait to rent it from Redbox or something.

My book review of Goodbye To All That
I really enjoyed this book! To me, it's about a married woman who is tired of being taken for granted by her husband and adult children. She decides that enough is enough, wants her independence and leaves. Her daughter,Jill is inspired by her and decides to assert her independence in her own way.
I enjoyed the book because it is realistic. It portrays the characters as people I can relate to. I give this book 4 out of 5 thumbs up!

My review of Man On A Ledge...
My first reaction when I saw the commercials for this movie was, "This looks like a stupid movie." It wasn't a smart thriller like Contagion by any means, but it surprised me. I was actually entertained (even though I figured things out early into the movie). It was good to see how they put the pieces together. I would recommend this movie if you are looking for an hour and 42 minutes of pure entertainment. It will make you forget about your stresses until the movie is done. After all, isn't that the point of a movie?

The Devil Inside...
Isabella learns that her mother murdered 3 church members while undergoing an exorcism and she travels to Rome with a documentary crew to discover the facts about exorcisms and her mother.
It was dark, creepy and sometimes a little shocking and yet, sometimes pretty predictable. I actually had to cover my eyes in a couple of parts. I would say go see it (if you are not bothered by that kind of subject). But it's not a movie that I would say deserves the full ticket price. I would rather see the extended cut of the Exorcist instead.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo...
For once I didn't actually read the book before seeing the movie. So I wasn't as disappointed as my sister at how many details were skipped in the movie that were in the book. I thought it was a sexy, action packed,thriller/mystery. I highly recommend it.
